The WGC-Dell Tech­nolo­gies Match Play tour­na­ment was only two days old, but Bubba Wat­son’s al­ready won.

Not just his first two rounds, which he has in grand style. He pos­i­tively smoked Scott Piercy on a wind-blown Thurs­day, crush­ing him 4 and 3 to put him ever closer to Satur­day’s round of 16. In his 33 holes the past two days, he’s posted nine birdies with only one bo­gey, that com­ing Wed­nes­day.

But in Wat­son’s world, he’s al­ready a big win­ner. And golf wins, too. In the cookie-cut­ter world of golf, there’s not a more re­fresh­ing char­ac­ter on the Tour than the up­beat, 38-year-old Florid­ian who fre­quently pokes fun at him­self as well as the golf­ing es­tab­lish­ment.
