Jim Furyk has be­come an ex­pert at wear­ing more than one hat.

PGA Tour vet, Ry­der Cup cap­tain, Pitts­burgh Steel­ers fan, you name it.

The Furyk that greeted a group of me­dia out­side the Austin Coun­try Club club­house af­ter his first Dell Tech­nolo­gies Match Play win of the week was pure player.

That is, un­til I asked how dif­fi­cult it was to be the Ry­der Cup cap­tain while still try­ing to main­tain a high level of play.

“I haven’t been play­ing at a high level so I don’t know,” he said.

Truth be told, the 46-year-old Furyk isn’t blow­ing up the Tour as a player these days. Since win­ning three events as part of seven top-10 fin­ishes in 2010 to vault to the top of the world rank­ings, Furyk has won just one tour­na­ment in his past 132 starts, but it’s rela-
