Austin American-Statesman - - CRIMINAL JUSTICE -

Austin police say they conduct forcible entry raids on homes once a week, on average, in search of evidence to help build cases, mostly drug cases.

One such raid led to the shooting of an Austin police officer last year. But officers who had been told an 18-year-old was a “largescale drug dealer” found 1.2 ounces of marijuana in the raid — possession of less than two ounces is a misdemeanor in Texas.
