Federer defeats del Potro in Miami
No. 4 seed Roger Federer advanced to the fourth round at the Miami Open, beating Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 6-4 on Monday. Federer broke del Potro twice, once in each set, and improved to 15-1 this year.
Federer next faces 14th-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut, who defeated Sam Querrey. Tenth-seeded Tomas Berdych was another third-round winner, beating Gilles Muller 6-3, 6-4.
Top-seeded Angelique Kerber made the women’s quarterfinals after beating Risa Ozaki 6-2, 6-2. No. 6 seed Caroline Wozniacki also reached the quarters when 12th-seeded Garbine Muguruza retired after the first set after feeling dizziness that she said was brought on by the Florida heat.
