Death of 3-week-old boy was accident, police say
Austin police said Monday that the death of a 3-week-old boy found unresponsive in a mobile home in Southeast Austin on Saturday is now being investigated as an accident.
Investigators were called to the residence in the 6600 block of Elm Creek Drive about 10:20 a.m. Saturday. Medics arrived and tried to revive the child, but he was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later.
Officer Rheannon Cunningham said Saturday that police had been called to the same residence several times the night before. But it was too early to tell whether those incidents were related to the death, she said at the time.
On Monday, police spokeswoman Anna Sabana said that “after further investigation, it has been determined that the infant death from Saturday is not suspicious.”
The medical examiner’s office did not respond to multiple requests for information Monday.
Texas Department of Family and Protective Services spokeswoman Lisa Block said the family of the infant had been investigated by Child Protective Services, but not for an issue involving the boy.
Authorities did not identify the child or his parents.
