Suspicious package sickens IRS workers
Ten Internal Revenue Service employees became ill Friday after coming in contact with a suspicious package at the agency’s office in Kansas City, Mo., local officials said.
The employees complained of nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, James Garrett, a deputy Kansas City fire chief, said. Ambulances were at the scene, but Garrett said the injuries were believed to be “not serious at all.”
Garrett said emergency workers “isolated the package” and “haven’t found anything else.” The building was not evacuated.
Garrett said he did not know what was inside the package. He said the package’s contents and the sender’s intent would be the subject of a separate, federal investigation.
