Po­lice ID dead man in kid­nap at­tempt

A woman po­lice say was ab­ducted and shot re­mains in hos­pi­tal.

Po­lice have iden­ti­fied the man who died from gun­shot wounds Wed­nes­day in an in­ci­dent that au­thor­i­ties be­lieve be­gan as an ag­gra­vated kid­nap­ping in Cen­tral Austin.

To­mas Vences-Martinez, 25, was iden­ti­fied by po­lice Fri­day morn­ing.

Vences-Martinez died on the 4400 block of Aqua Verde Drive around 3 p.m., ac­cord­ing to the Travis County sher­iff’s of­fice. Au­thor­i­ties said they found him while re­spond­ing to a re­ported kid­nap­ping in the area, along with a woman who had been shot and se­ri­ously in­jured. The woman told au­thor­i­ties VencesMartinez had kid­napped her.

Au­thor­i­ties say the in­ci­dent be­gan at the park­ing lot of the H-E-B on Bur­net Road and Koenig Lane around 1:30 p.m. Wit­nesses called in to say they’d seen a man pull a woman and a child into a car, of­fi­cials said.

Austin po­lice of­fi­cials con­firmed Fri­day the woman and VencesMartinez knew each other, and that the child was a fam­ily mem­ber of the woman, but not her son.
