Gov. Greg Abbott drew cheers from sup­port­ers in San An­to­nio as he vowed to keep the Texas econ­omy rock­ing and laid a claim to his­tory.

The Repub­li­can gov­er­nor, kick­ing off his re-elec­tion cam­paign, said: “And since I took of­fice, in just the last 2½ years, in Texas, we’ve added more than 450,000 new jobs. More Tex­ans have jobs today than ever be­fore in the his­tory of our state.”

That j obs-ga i ned num ber sounded a lit­tle low. Ac­cord­ing to Bureau of La­bor Sta­tis­tics fig­ures pro­vided by bureau econ­o­mist Ch­eryl Ab­bot, the state was home to nearly 11.8 mil­lion non- ing
