McDaniel ends 22-game skid

Field goal on last play lifts Terror; Toner’s 2 INTs help Jays win

Spencer Wiersburg kicked a 43yard field goal as time expired to lift McDaniel over visiting Ursinus, 30-27, on Saturday.

The Green Terror ended a 22-game losing streak and improved to 1-3 and 1-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Bears fell to 0-4 and 0-3.

The field goal was Wiersburg’s third of the game; he made a 26-yard attempt with four minutes left in the first half and a 25-yard attempt with 10:20 left in the game.

It was also the longest field goal for McDaniel since 2006, when Jay Leonard made a 46-yard attempt to defeat Gettysburg, 17-14.

McDaniel’s Breon Herbert caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Will Koester with a minute left to play. Wiersburg’s extra point tied the score at 27.

Perry Stefanelli had 96 of the Green Terror’s 116 rushing yards. He finished with a career-best 198 all-purpose yards

JOHNS HOPKINS 30, MUHLENBERG 24: Jack Toner made two intercepti­ons, both in the end zone, on the last two possession­s by the host Mules (3-1, 2-1 Centennial) to preserve the win for the Blue Jays (4-0, 3-0).

Toner intercepte­d a tipped ball with 42.5 seconds left and the gameending throw as time expired.

Hopkins (4-0, 3-0) trailed 24-20 to start the second half but retook the lead, 27-24, on a 5-yard touchdown run by Ryan Carey with 2:11 left in the third quarter. Jamie Sullivan added his third field goal of the day, from 34 yards, with 3:55 left to play for Hopkins.

BOWIE STATE 55, SHAW 13: Amir Hall went 32-for-45 for 346 yards and threw four touchdown passes to lead the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-0 Central Intercolle­giate Athletic Associatio­n) over the host Bears (0-4, 0-1).

Bowie State’s Deron Smith had two catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns.

STEVENSON 54, FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON-FLORHAM 15: Daniel Williams completed 21 of 33 passes for 338 yards and six touchdowns to power the host Mustangs (4-0) past the Devils (0-3).

Stevenson scored 21 points in the second quarter and 23 in the third.

The Mustangs made four intercepti­ons, including a 73-yard return for a touchdown by Austin Tennessee (Atholton) with 14 seconds left in the third quarter.

SALISBURY 35, SOUTHERN VIRGINIA 0: Connor Canonico (12 rushes for 100 yards) had two touchdown runs to lift the Sea Gulls (3-0, 2-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) over the host Knights (1-2, 0-2).

Canonico had a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and a 75-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Salisbury scored 21 points in the second quarter.
