Some Chris­tian the­olo­gians be­lieve God sent his son into the world to preach and be cru­ci­fied. His res­ur­rec­tion would give hu­man­ity a chance to rec­on­cile with the di­vine.

Oth­ers say God sent Je­sus to teach peo­ple new ways. But those very peo­ple, be­ing self-in­ter­ested and sin­ful, took it upon them­selves to kill him.
