MIKE PRESTON’S KEY MATCHUPS
Browns LT Joe Thomas vs. Ravens OLB Terrell Suggs
Maybe no other tackle in the NFL has dominated Suggs the way Thomas has at the line of scrimmage. But in the second game between the teams last season, Suggs overwhelmed Thomas with one sack, one deflected pass and a forced fumble.Suggs dominated two second-year offensive tackles from the Cincinnati Bengals last week. Thomas has more power but Suggs has a relentless motor. Browns QB DeShone Kizer vs Ravens DC Dean Pees
Kizer will be starting his second NFL game. He has a strong arm and fast enough feet to make plays outside the pocket. The former starting quarterback at Notre Dame completed 20 of 30 passes for 222 yards with one touchdown and one interception last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But the Ravens defense is better and Pees will throw a lot of different looks at Kizer on Sunday. Browns OLB Jamie Collins Sr. vs Ravens TEs Nick Boyle and Benjamin Watson
Collins plays with leverage and power. He had four tackles and a forced fumble against the Steelers last week. The Ravens want to run the ball and they will need to contain Collins on the outside as he tries to hold the edge. Collins is also an effective pass rusher, so the Ravens might have to double-team him on quite a few occasions. Watson has played well the past couple of weeks, and Boyle might be the Ravens’ best blocking tight end.
Veteran All-Pro tackle Joe Thomas has dominated Terrell Suggs in past games.
