Mount Saint Joseph pounces on Loy­ola, 49-6

Big early plays fuel foot­ball win; Gil­man rolls in soc­cer

Mar­lowe Wax Jr. set the tone early for No. 2 Mount Saint Joseph with an 80-yard touch­down run 1:27 into the game. More big plays for big gains fol­lowed and the Gaels routed host Loy­ola Blake­field, 49-6, in foot­ball Sat­ur­day.

Mount Saint Joseph im­proved to 6-1 and recorded their fourth straight vic­tory. The Dons fell to 3-2.

On the next scor­ing drive, Wax Jr. caught a 20-yard touch­down pass from Wil­liam Atkins for a 14-0 lead with 7:32 left in the first quar­ter. He added his third touch­down on a 30-yard run with 6:43 left in the first half for a 35-0 lead.

Kahri Barfield made a 41-yard touch­down re­cep­tion for a 49-0 lead with 1:04 left in the first half. The touch­down pass was the third of the day for Atkins, who went 7-for-7 on point-af­ter-at­tempts.

Gaels’ de­fense came up with scores of their own. De­fen­sive back Amir Hall made a 15-yard in­ter­cep­tion re­turn for a touch­down and line­backer Matthew Har­ris scooped up a loose ball and ran 80 yards for a fum­ble re­cov­ery touch­down.

Loy­ola got on the score­board with 8:07 left in the game. Peter Luk­ish caught a 10-yard touch­down pass from Jor­dan Moore to cap a five-play, 50-yard drive. The ex­tra-point at­tempt was no good.

The Dons pre­vi­ous drive into the red zone with 2:08 left in the third quar­ter went from a fourth-and-one to a 15-yard loss and turnover on downs.

PERRY HALL 40, DULANEY 6: The vis­it­ing Ga­tors (4-2) won their sec­ond­straight by beat­ing the Lions (2-4).

TOW­SON 14, CH­E­SA­PEAKE-BC 10: The vis­it­ing Gen­er­als (4-2) won their fourth straight. The Bay­hawks fell to 0-5. the half.

NO. 4 BROADNECK 35, OLD MILL 0: Fresh­man Josh Ehrlich went 19-for-28 for 197 yards and three touch­downs to lead the host Bru­ins (6-0) past the Pa­tri­ots (3-3). Broadneck’s Ja­son Car­camo had 10 car­ries for 101 yards.

NO. 5 ARCH­BISHOP SPALDING 43, ST. AN­THONY’S (N.Y.) 42: The host Cava­liers (3-1) went on a 22-0 run in the fourth quar­ter in a come-from-be­hind vic­tory over the Fri­ars (4-1). Jay­den Um­barger had 17 car­ries for 138 yards and three rush­ing touch­downs.

NO. 13 ARUN­DEL 56, NORTH COUNTY 12: Austin Slye com­pleted 15 of 19 passes for 177 yards and four touch­down passes to lead the host Wild­cats (5-1) past the Knights (0-6). Arun­del led 22-0 in the first quar­ter and cruised.

HOWARD 22, LONG REACH 12: Se­nior run­ning back Devin Dawkin­sran for over 100 yards, and se­nior quar­ter­back Jerry O'Neill ef­fi­ciently drove the Lions (5-1) down the field through­out the game. On de­fense, the Lions al­lowed just one of­fen­sive touch­down to Long Reach (4-2).
