Angels: Slug­ger Al­bert Pu­jols reached the 100-RBI mark for the 13th time — the fifth player in his­tory to achieve the feat — in the Angels’ 6-3 win over the Blue Jays. One day af­ter his 584th home run moved him past Mark McGwire into sole pos­ses­sion of 10th place on the all-time list, Pu­jols joined Jim­mie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Alex Ro­driguez and Babe Ruth as the only play­ers to col­lect 100 or more RBIs in 13 sea­sons.

Red Sox: Rookie LF An­drew Ben­in­tendi was placed on the 15-day DL with a left knee sprain. Ben­in­tendi was hurt in the sev­enth in­ning of a 4-3 loss in 11 in­nings to the Rays on Wed­nes­day when he tried to avoid a tag while run­ning to­ward sec­ond.

Tigers: C James McCann went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer as the Tigers com­pleted a sweep of the Twins with an 8-5 vic­tory. The loss was the Twins’ sev­enth straight. Closer Fran­cisco Ro­driguez pre­served the Tigers’ vic­tory by strik­ing out two bat­ters in a per­fect ninth for his 35th save in 38 op­por­tu­ni­ties. Twins RHP Jose Ber­rios, the or­ga­ni­za­tion’s top pitch­ing prospect, gave up six runs on six hits and five walks in his ninth ma­jor league start and then was op­tioned to Triple-A Rochester af­ter the game. RHP Tyler Duf­fey, the starter Wed­nes­day, also was sent down by the Twins.

Dodgers: In a trade of backup catch­ers, the Dodgers ac­quired Car­los Ruiz and $1 mil­lion from the Phillies for A.J. El­lis, mi­nor league RHP Tommy Berg­jans and a player to be named or cash. Ruiz was hit­ting .261 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 48 games. El­lis hit .194 with one homer and 13 RBIs and was the pre­ferred catcher of LHP Clay­ton Ker­shaw.

Rays: LHP Enny Romero earned his first ma­jor-league save by strik­ing out Red Sox slug­ger David Or­tiz for the fi­nal out of a 2-1 Rays win. OF Mikie Mah­took ended a stretch of 34 hit­less at-bats with a go-ahead dou­ble in the sev­enth off LHP Drew Pomer­anz (10-10), who is 2-3 since be­ing traded from the Padres to the Red Sox.
