Abercrombie & Fitch closing up to 60 stores

Baltimore Sun - - NATION -

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. reported Tuesday a wider loss for its second quarter and said it is closing up to 60 stores in the United States as U.S. and international sales fell. The retailer also offered a downbeat outlook for a key sales measure, as business continues to be hurt by a decline in tourists to its flagship stores in key cities. The closures represent about 8 percent of its stores in the domestic market. The retailer has stores at Towson Town Center and The Mall in Columbia in the Baltimore region. Abercrombie, once a top destination for teens, has struggled to adjust as its customers increasingly shop on their phones and other mobile devices, and shift to fast-fashion chains such as H&M. Abercrombie is changing its marketing to play down its sexy image, shedding provocative pictures on its bags and walls. Abercrombie shares closed down 20 percent to $18.29 in Tuesday
