Up next for Lochte: Dance troubles away
Sure, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte made up an incident in Rio de Janeiro and is facing charges from Brazilian police that he filed a false robbery report, and he is losing sponsors who think his image has been tarnished.
But despite his current woes, Lochte was named Tuesday as a contestant on the upcoming edition of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
“I’m definitely really excited. This is completely new for me,” Lochte said when the cast was announced on “Good Morning America.”
“I think it’s time for me to hang up the Speedo and put on my dancing shoes and get in that ballroom,” Lochte continued. “I’m going to treat this kind of like going into the Olympics.”
Lochte joins other celebrities in the “DWTS” ballroom, including former Texas Gov. Rick Perry; “Brady Bunch” star Maureen McCormick; recording artists Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds,” Jana Kramer and Vanilla Ice; Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez; NFL wide receiver Calvin Johnson Jr.; actress Marilu Henner; race car driver James Hinchcliffe; and “Little Women: LA” star Terra Jole.
Perry, who is Texas’ longest-serving governor and a two-time unsuccessful presidential candidate, tweeted Tuesday that he will appear on the show to help veterans, though he didn’t elaborate on how.
The new season premieres Sept. 12.
