Stevenson, Salisbury win season openers
Senior defensive back Billy Lewis returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown to break a tie at 28 with 9:15 to play, and sophomore running back Jainard Crawley-Lambert ran for a 50yard touchdown with 2:15 to go to lift host Stevenson to a 42-28 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan in the Division III season opener for both schools Friday night. Lewis finished with three of the Mustangs’ six interceptions. MORE FOOTBALL: Senior quarterback Ryan Jones (Hereford) had 18 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns and senior running back Connor Canonico added 70 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns to lead host Salisbury to a 34-18 victory over Albright in the Division III opener for both schools. Sea Gulls sophomore wide receiver Sean Rowland had a 92-yard return for a touchdown on the game’s opening kickoff. … Johns Hopkins junior running back Ryan Cary rushed for 158 yards on 20 carries and tied the school record for touchdowns in a game with four as the Blue Jays, ranked No. 15 in Division III, earned a 45-29 win over Washington & Lee, ranked 20th in Division III, on Thursday night at Homewood Field in the season opener for both teams.
