Baltimore Sun - - SPORTS -

Goaltending competitions are front and center as pretournament camps open for the start of the World Cup of Hockey on Sept. 17, and that includes the one between starter Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens and Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals for Team Canada. Price, who hasn’t played a game since November because of a knee injury, practiced Monday in Ottawa and is “100 percent,” according to Canada general manager Doug Armstrong. But Holtby could play Friday and Saturday in exhibitions against the United States, according to coach Mike Babcock. “We’re playing back to back right away in exhibition, so we wouldn’t play a goalie back to back in exhibition for sure,” Babcock said. “So there’s going to be opportunities for more than one goaltender.” (0-2-2). Sophomore midfielder Amar Sejdic and freshman midfielder Keegan Kelly ( McDonogh) also scored and redshirt senior goalkeeper Cody Niedermeier (Broadneck) had two saves for the Terps, who begin Big Ten Conference play Friday at No. 5 Indiana at 7 p.m. FOOTBALL: Johns Hopkins junior running back Ryan Cary was named Centennial Conference co- Offensive Player of the Week. … Towson punter Jake Ryder was selected Colonial Athletic Association Specialist of the Week. SOFTBALL: Washington College named 2016 graduate Clare Hofstedt (Severna Park) an assistant coach. WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: UMES sophomore Lucia Babic (Player of the Week) and freshmen Iva Vujosevic (Rookie of the Week) and Ivana Blazevic (Setter of the Week) were honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. —
