Heat to shut, force early closures at some schools
Baltimore County public schools without air conditioning will close today as temperatures are forecast to hit 93 degrees and the heat index could reach 101. Baltimore city schools will close three hours early. It is the second straight day of closures for both districts. Temperatures are forecast to spike this week as much as 12 degrees above normal, according to the National Weather Service. Half-day prekindergarten and all after-school activities will also be canceled in the city schools. The county school board voted last week to modify its heat policy. Now, schools without air conditioning may remain open unless the heat index is forecast to reach 90 degrees by 11 a.m.
