AROUND THE HORN
Red Sox: DH David Ortiz hit his 536th home run to tie Mickey Mantle for 17th on baseball’s career list, and LHP David Price allowed just a pair of solo homers to lead the Red Sox to a 12-2 victory over the Orioles on Monday night and protect their lead in the American League East. OF Chris Young homered, doubled twice and singled, and 1B Hanley Ramirez also homered for the Red Sox, who kept a two-game edge over the Blue Jays.
Nationals: RHPMat Latos hit a solo home run and 3B Anthony Rendon added a three-run shot as the Nationals beat the Mets 8-1 to increase their National League East lead to 10 games. Latos, who was making his first start for the Nationals after signing a minorleague deal in June following his release from the White Sox, left the game with one out in the fifth inning when he appeared to injure his right leg.
Blue Jays: The Rays and Blue Jays cleared the benches and bullpens after the Jays wrapped up a 3-2 win, ending the skirmish without throwing any punches. Ezequiel Carrera had a tiebreaking, pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning and Jose Bautista hit a two-run homer for the Jays.
A’s: OF Khris Davis and SS Marcus Semien hit three-run homers and the A’s matched a season high with 17 hits while drawing 10 walks in a 16-3 rout of the Royals.
Reds: OF Scott Schebler hit a two-run single during a threerun first inning and four pitchers teamed up on the Reds’ seventh shutout since the All-Star break, 3-0 over the Brewers.
Tigers: OF Justin Upton left the Tigers’ game against the Twins in the fourth inning because of a strained left calf. It wasn’t clear when the left fielder hurt himself, but in the third inning, he tried to make a spectacular catch at the wall on 2B Brian Dozier’s home run.
Indians: RHP Danny Salazar will be sidelined three to four weeks with a forearm injury. Salazar had an MRI in Cleveland and was diagnosed with a mild strain to his flexor musculature.
