Baltimore Sun - - SPORTS -

Calvert Hall made the biggest move in this week’s Maryland High School Football Media State Poll, jumping from No. 15 to No. 10. Coming off a 44-3 win over Mansfield (Mass.), the Cardinals have started 3-0 for the first time since 2011. They next face No. 15 Riverdale Baptist (2-1) on Friday night on the road. Calvert Hall’s rise gives the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference four teams in the Top 10. McDonogh (3-0) is No. 3, Archbishop Spalding (1-1) is No. 7, and Mount Saint Joseph (1-1) is No. 9. DeMatha held on to the No. 1 spot. The Stags (3-0), who travel to McDonogh on Friday night, are No. 4 in USA Today’s Super 25. Good Counsel (3-0), which has beaten Spalding and Mount Saint Joseph in close games, is No. 2. The Falcons travel to Gilman on Saturday. St. Frances (2-1) also moved up after its win over Silver Oak, jumping from No. 16 to No. 13. Howard (2-0) remained at No. 12, while Broadneck (2-0) dropped one spot, to No. 18. Old Mill (2-0) held at No. 19, and Franklin (0-1) remained No. 24 after its game with Perry Hall was canceled. Gilman (1-1) and Milford Mill (2-0) received votes but not enough to crack the Top 25. —
