Re­ward of­fered in series of area bank rob­beries

The FBI is of­fer­ing a $5,000 re­ward for any in­for­ma­tion that leads to the ar­rest of a sus­pect be­lieved to be re­spon­si­ble for at least three bank rob­beries in the Bal­ti­more area this month. The man, nick­named “The Avi­a­tor” by law en­force­ment of­fi­cials for the style of sun­glasses he has worn in each of the rob­beries, has each time ap­proached a teller while talk­ing on a cell­phone, then handed over a note an­nounc­ing an armed rob­bery and de­mand­ing cash, the FBI said. Each time, the man has re­ceived cash and fled on foot. The rob­beries oc­curred on Sept. 1 at the Wells Fargo Bank in the 1600 block of Mer­ritt Blvd. in Dun­dalk; on Sept. 9 at the BB&T Bank in the 5400 block of Har­ford Road in Hamil­ton; and on Tues­day at the Wells Fargo Bank in the 7600 block of Har­ford Road in Parkville. The FBI re­leased im­ages of the sus­pect on Thurs­day, de­scrib­ing him as a black man in his 40s, about 5 foot 9 and with a “salt and pep­per” beard.” “He wears a base­ball cap, long-sleeved shirt/ hooded sweat­shirt and avi­a­tor sun­glasses,” the FBI said. The FBI’s Vi­o­lent Crimes Task Force, which part­ners with lo­cal po­lice agen­cies, is han­dling the case. Any­one with in­for­ma­tion is asked to call the FBI at 410-265-8080.

Woman sen­tenced in Bal­ti­more County mur­der

A Michi­gan woman was sen­tenced to 60 years in prison Thurs­day for the fa­tal shoot­ing of her child’s fa­ther in Bal­ti­more County last year. Dei­dra Veella Grif­fin, 41, had driven more than 500 miles from Bay City, Mich., to Ran­dall­stown to kill her ex-boyfriend, Lon­nie Paye Jr., au­thor­i­ties said. She was found guilty of first­de­gree mur­der and use of a firearm in a crime of Two men were stabbed, one fa­tally, Wed­nes­day night in the Mon­dawmin neigh­bor­hood of Bal­ti­more, po­lice said. Po­lice were called about 9 p.m. to the 2300 block of Reis­ter­stown Road and found a 31-year-old bleed­ing from his neck. The man would not name his at­tacker, po­lice said. A few blocks north, of­fi­cers found 30-year-old Davon Bridge­ford. The Columbia man was stabbed in his torso and died at the hos­pi­tal, po­lice said.
