Calvert Hall’s Lewis to attend minicamp
Calvert Hall freshman Justin Lewis has yet to step onto the basketball court for the Cardinals, but he’s already receiving national attention.
The 6-foot-7 forward was one of 56 high school players selected to participate at the eighth annual USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team October Minicamp at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The two-day minicamp, set for Oct. 8-9, is designed to familiarize players with USA Basketball and to help USA Basketball field competitive, experienced teams for upcoming competitions — Glenn Graham Curley Hall: Archbishop Curley will induct five members into its Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime of the homecoming football game Oct. 15. The Friars will play St. Mary’s at 1:30 p.m.
The hall’s second class consists of Jim Hessenhauer (1985, cross country-track), Onas “Butch” Jansen (1979, wrestling-football), Jeremy Rallo (1989 track-football) and John Tucker (1979 lacrosse-football). Former track and football coach Jack “Tag” Targarona will be inducted posthumously.
Inductees also will be honored at a dinner after the game, and their names will be displayed on a commemorative shield on the hall of fame wall in the lobby of the athletic wing. — Glenn Graham
