Calvert Hall’s Lewis to at­tend mini­camp

Calvert Hall fresh­man Justin Lewis has yet to step onto the bas­ket­ball court for the Car­di­nals, but he’s al­ready re­ceiv­ing na­tional at­ten­tion.

The 6-foot-7 for­ward was one of 56 high school play­ers se­lected to par­tic­i­pate at the eighth an­nual USA Bas­ket­ball Men’s Ju­nior Na­tional Team Oc­to­ber Mini­camp at the United States Olympic Train­ing Cen­ter in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The two-day mini­camp, set for Oct. 8-9, is de­signed to fa­mil­iar­ize play­ers with USA Bas­ket­ball and to help USA Bas­ket­ball field com­pet­i­tive, ex­pe­ri­enced teams for up­com­ing com­pe­ti­tions — Glenn Gra­ham Cur­ley Hall: Arch­bishop Cur­ley will in­duct five mem­bers into its Ath­letic Hall of Fame at half­time of the home­com­ing foot­ball game Oct. 15. The Fri­ars will play St. Mary’s at 1:30 p.m.

The hall’s sec­ond class con­sists of Jim Hessen­hauer (1985, cross coun­try-track), Onas “Butch” Jansen (1979, wrestling-foot­ball), Jeremy Rallo (1989 track-foot­ball) and John Tucker (1979 lacrosse-foot­ball). For­mer track and foot­ball coach Jack “Tag” Tar­garona will be in­ducted posthu­mously.

In­ductees also will be hon­ored at a din­ner af­ter the game, and their names will be dis­played on a com­mem­o­ra­tive shield on the hall of fame wall in the lobby of the ath­letic wing. — Glenn Gra­ham
