Teen charged with pointing gun at fellow student
A 16-year-old has been charged as an adult after Baltimore County police say he pointed a gun at another high school student when they got off the school bus last week. Shane Kaleipaihala Pule Jr., a junior at Kenwood High School, faces charges that include first-degree assault, police said Thursday. According to police, Pule and a sophomore were dropped off at Elm Drive and Wilson Point Road the afternoon of Sept. 23 when the sophomore approached Pule to confront him about a previous incident. Pule allegedly pulled a .45-caliber handgun from his backpack and pointed it at the other student, who was not injured, police said. Pule was released on $100,000 bail, authorities said.
Inmate killed at Western Maryland prison
State Police are investigating the killing of an inmate at a state prison near Cumberland. Shane Simms, 24, was stabbed by at least one inmate Wednesday in an outdoor area of the maximumsecurity North Branch Correctional Institution, police said Thursday. Police said they’ve identified another inmate as a suspect, but he hasn’t been charged. Investigators recovered several homemade knives from the scene, police said.
