Teen charged with point­ing gun at fel­low stu­dent

A 16-year-old has been charged as an adult af­ter Bal­ti­more County po­lice say he pointed a gun at an­other high school stu­dent when they got off the school bus last week. Shane Kaleipai­hala Pule Jr., a ju­nior at Ken­wood High School, faces charges that in­clude first-de­gree as­sault, po­lice said Thurs­day. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, Pule and a sopho­more were dropped off at Elm Drive and Wil­son Point Road the af­ter­noon of Sept. 23 when the sopho­more ap­proached Pule to con­front him about a pre­vi­ous in­ci­dent. Pule al­legedly pulled a .45-cal­iber hand­gun from his back­pack and pointed it at the other stu­dent, who was not in­jured, po­lice said. Pule was re­leased on $100,000 bail, au­thor­i­ties said.

In­mate killed at Western Mary­land prison

State Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the killing of an in­mate at a state prison near Cum­ber­land. Shane Simms, 24, was stabbed by at least one in­mate Wed­nes­day in an out­door area of the max­i­mum­se­cu­rity North Branch Cor­rec­tional In­sti­tu­tion, po­lice said Thurs­day. Po­lice said they’ve iden­ti­fied an­other in­mate as a sus­pect, but he hasn’t been charged. In­ves­ti­ga­tors re­cov­ered sev­eral home­made knives from the scene, po­lice said.
