Man charged in 2015 Baltimore County rape
A 36-year-old man has been charged in connection with a home invasion and rape after DNA allegedly linked him to the 2015 attack, Baltimore County police said. Alphonso Dewayne Owens is being held without bail in Baltimore, where he had been in custody on unrelated charges, said county police spokesman Cpl. John Wachter. The assault happened March 26, 2015, in the 4000 block of Colchester Road in southwest Baltimore County, police said. A woman leaving her apartment saw a man as she opened her door, police said. She shut the door and locked it with the deadbolt, but the man forced the door open, entered the apartment and sexually assaulted her, police said. DNA collected from the incident was entered into the Combined DNA Index System — a law enforcement database — and presented a match to Owens, police said. Wachter said he did not know the circumstances surrounding the collection of Owens’ DNA. Owens is charged with first-degree rape and home invasion in connection with the case. An attorney for him could not be reached for comment.
