Fire damages warehouse in Baltimore Highlands
More than 200 firefighters from around the region responded to a three-alarm fire Tuesday at Adell Plastics in the 4500 block of Annapolis Road in Baltimore Highlands. The fire was reported at 1:07 p.m., and initial crews saw so much smoke and fire before they even arrived that they immediately called for more crews, said Lt. Paul Massarelli, a spokesman for the Baltimore County Fire Department. He said plastic pellets stored in the warehouse were among items burning. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside because the building was unsafe, with some walls collapsing. All employees got out without injuries. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion and taken to a hospital, Massarelli said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and an estimate of the amount of the damage was not available. Massarelli said he expects damage to be extensive. Company officials at the scene declined to comment. Firefighters and equipment came from as far away as Middle River. Crews also came from Baltimore, Howard County, Anne Arundel County and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport.
