The se­nior out­side hit­ter had 45 kills, 27 digs and five aces to lead the Grey­hounds to vic­tory in two five-set matches last week. In a re­match of last year’s Mary­land In­ter­scholas­tic Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion cham­pi­onship won by Loy­ola Blake­field, Darby had 26 kills on 34 at­tacks with just three er­rors for an ex­cep­tional .676 hit­ting per­cent­age. His 26 kills came within one of the school record. Against St. Paul’s, Darby, 6 feet 2, had19 kills, 14 digs, three aces and three blocks as he ral­lied the team from an 0-2 start. He av­er­ages 15.4 kills per match as Gil­man tops the MIAA at 10-0. An “A” stu­dent who is pres­i­dent of the Ath­let­ics As­so­ci­a­tion at Gil­man, he also plays base­ball and basketball for the Grey­hounds. Darby plans to play base­ball in col­lege.
