Jala Tucker, St. Paul’s, girls volleyball
After going 4-10 last season, the No. 6 Gators (7-1) have emerged as prime contenders in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference this season, and Tucker is a big reason for that. Last week, the senior outside hitter was instrumental in two IAAM wins to put the Gators in first place with a 6-0 record. On Sept. 27, Tucker finished with 28 kills, 12 digs, one block and one ace as St. Paul’s upset then-No. 4 Notre Dame Prep, 25-19, 25-2, 22-25, 25-14. Last Wednesday, the Gators beat John Carroll, 25-23, 25-10, 25-17, with Tucker leading the way with 20 kills and 11 digs. Tucker is averaging five kills per set for the season. In mid-September, she was named to the All-McDonogh Tournament team.
