Pride of Baltimore II due back at Inner Harbor today

Baltimore Sun - - MARYLAND NATION & WORLD -

The Pride of Baltimore II will return to the Inner Harbor today from a four-month, 8,000-mile journey up the East Coast to the Great Lakes. The ship, known as Baltimore’s “Star-Spangled Ambassador,” made its way up the coast, rounded Halifax and took the St. Lawrence Seaway to the Great Lakes, where it competed in sailing races in each of the lakes — and won two of the five. “Our mission this summer was mixing business with pleasure,” marketing director Laura Rodini said. “Not only were we welcoming tens of thousands of people onto our deck, but we were fostering business in Maryland.” For those interested in seeing the historic ship sail into the harbor, it will be passing Fort McHenry about 12:30 p.m., and will dock at the Broadway pier in Fells Point at 2 p.m., Rodini said. The deck will be open for tours. At 6 p.m., the Baltimore Rock Opera Society will do a “pirate takeover” and sing a song from the ship’s deck, Rodini said.
