Terps guard Trim­ble named to pre­sea­son All-Big Ten team

Maryland ju­nior guard Melo Trim­ble was one of 10 men’s play­ers named pre­sea­son All-Big Ten Con­fer­ence on Tues­day, as voted on by league media mem­bers. A two-time All-Big Ten selection, Trim­ble led the Terps in scor­ing (14.8 points per game), as­sists (five per game), free-throw per­cent­age (.868) and steals (44) last sea­son as the Terps ad­vanced to the Sweet Six­teen for the first time since 2003. Wis­con­sin’s Nigel Hayes was the only unan­i­mous all-con­fer­ence selection and was named Pre­sea­son Big Ten Player of the Year. Also hon­ored were Illi­nois’ Mal­colm Hill, In­di­ana’s James Black­mon Jr. and Thomas Bryant, Iowa’s Peter Jok, Michi­gan’s Der­rick Wal­ton Jr., Pur­due’s Caleb Swani­gan, and Wis­con­sin’s Ethan Happ and Bron­son Koenig. WOMEN: For­mer Maryland point guard An­jale Bar­rett was named the Terps’ di­rec­tor of re­cruit­ing op­er­a­tions and player per­son­nel. Bar­rett played for Maryland from 2008 to 2012, help­ing the team to a record of 140-35 (.800), the 2009 and 2012 At­lantic Coast Con­fer­ence ti­tles, four NCAA tour­na­ment ap­pear­ances and three Elite Eights. She will as­sist with daily of­fice du­ties, re­cruit­ing op­er­a­tions and com­mu­nity re­la­tions. “We are al­ways ex­cited when we can wel­come home one of our own,” coach Brenda Frese said in a re­lease. “An­jale was a great player for us in our pro­gram and as a point guard, will bring a tremen­dous dy­namic to our staff. She’s a Terp at heart and loves this pro­gram.”
