Big Ben to have surgery; Steelers fall
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will undergo surgery Monday after suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee during the Steelers’ surprising 30-15 road loss to the Dolphins.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the diagnosis after Roethlisberger had an MRI on Sunday.
There’s no timetable yet for his return.
Landry Jones is expected to start next week against the visiting Patriots.
Roethlisberger missed the Steelers’ final series of the first half because of the injury but returned at the start of the third quarter. He finished with just 189 yards passing.
Jay Ajayi rushed for 204 yards and two scores on 25 carries for the Dolphins, who improved to 2-4.
The Steelers fell to 4-2. Saints 41, Panthers 38: Drew Brees passed for 465 yards and four TDs and Will Lutz kicked a 52-yard FG with 11 seconds left to hand the Panthers their fourth loss in a row. TE Rob Gronkowski had seven catches for a career-high 162 yards with a TD. Jaguars 17, Bears 16: Arrelious Benn hauled in a 51-yard TD pass with 2:49 left to lift the Jaguars, who trailed 13-0 after three quarters. Giants 27, Ravens 23: Odell Beckham Jr. turned a short fourth-and-1 pass into a winning 66-yard catch and run with 1:24 to play as the Giants snapped a three-game skid. It was the 700th win in franchise history. Beckham finished with eight catches for 222 yards. Chiefs 26, Raiders 10: Spencer Ware ran for a career-high 131 yards and a TD and DL Dontari Poe scored on a 1-yard rush in the win. Seahawks 26, Falcons 24: Steven Hauschka made a 44-yard FG with 1:57 left to help cap the Seahawks’ comeback. Falcons QB Matt Ryan threw for 220 yards with three TDs in a 21-point third quarter. Cowboys 30, Packers 16: Rookie Dak Prescott threw for 247 yards and three TDs and rookie Ezekiel Elliott ran for 157 yards to lead the Cowboys to their fifth straight win. The Packers had four turnovers. Colts at Texans: Colts QB Andrew Luck had been sacked 20 times, while Texans QB Brock Osweiler had thrown seven INTs.
