Big Ben to have surgery; Steel­ers fall

Quar­ter­back Ben Roeth­lis­berger will un­dergo surgery Mon­day af­ter suf­fer­ing a torn menis­cus in his left knee dur­ing the Steel­ers’ sur­pris­ing 30-15 road loss to the Dol­phins.

The Pitts­burgh Post-Gazette re­ported the di­ag­no­sis af­ter Roeth­lis­berger had an MRI on Sun­day.

There’s no timetable yet for his re­turn.

Landry Jones is ex­pected to start next week against the vis­it­ing Pa­tri­ots.

Roeth­lis­berger missed the Steel­ers’ fi­nal se­ries of the first half be­cause of the in­jury but re­turned at the start of the third quar­ter. He fin­ished with just 189 yards pass­ing.

Jay Ajayi rushed for 204 yards and two scores on 25 car­ries for the Dol­phins, who im­proved to 2-4.

The Steel­ers fell to 4-2. Saints 41, Pan­thers 38: Drew Brees passed for 465 yards and four TDs and Will Lutz kicked a 52-yard FG with 11 se­conds left to hand the Pan­thers their fourth loss in a row. Cam New­ton, who missed last week’s game with a con­cus­sion, threw for 322 yards with two TDs. Red­skins 27, Ea­gles 20: Kirk Cousins threw for 263 yards and two TDs and RBs Matt Jones, Robert Kel­ley and Chris Thompson com­bined for 231 yards to lift the Red­skins to their fourth straight win. Pa­tri­ots 35, Ben­gals 17: Tom Brady eclipsed 5,000 ca­reer com­ple­tions, fin­ish­ing the win 29 of 35 for 376 yards with three TDs. TE Rob Gronkowski had seven catches for a ca­reer-high 162 yards with a TD. Jaguars 17, Bears 16: Ar­re­lious Benn hauled in a 51-yard TD pass with 2:49 left to lift the Jaguars, who trailed 13-0 af­ter three quar­ters. Gi­ants 27, Ravens 23: Odell Beck­ham Jr. turned a short fourth-and-1 pass into a win­ning 66-yard catch and run with 1:24 to play as the Gi­ants snapped a three-game skid. It was the 700th win in fran­chise his­tory. Beck­ham fin­ished with eight catches for 222 yards. Chiefs 26, Raiders 10: Spencer Ware ran for a ca­reer-high 131 yards and a TD and DL Don­tari Poe scored on a 1-yard rush in the win. Sea­hawks 26, Fal­cons 24: Steven Hauschka made a 44-yard FG with 1:57 left to help cap the Sea­hawks’ come­back. Fal­cons QB Matt Ryan threw for 220 yards with three TDs in a 21-point third quar­ter. Cow­boys 30, Pack­ers 16: Rookie Dak Prescott threw for 247 yards and three TDs and rookie Ezekiel El­liott ran for 157 yards to lead the Cow­boys to their fifth straight win. The Pack­ers had four turnovers. Colts at Tex­ans: Colts QB An­drew Luck had been sacked 20 times, while Tex­ans QB Brock Osweiler had thrown seven INTs.
