Broncos to place Anderson on IR
Broncos running back C.J. Anderson is pointing to a possible return during the AFC playoffs after having the meniscus in his right knee repaired Thursday.
The Broncos reportedly are expected to place their top running back on injured reserve, which would put him out of action a minimum of eight weeks.
Although the Broncos hadn’t made the transaction by Friday afternoon, Anderson tweeted it was “an amazing fun year” and that he plans to “get back for the playoffs.”
“He’s going to miss some significant time,” coach Gary Kubiak said.
Rookie Devontae Booker will make his first start Sunday. Schottenheimer has Alzheimer’s: Former coach Marty Schottenheimer has had Alzheimer’s disease for the last five years, ESPN reported.
“He’s in the best of health, [but] sometimes he just doesn’t remember everything,” wife Pat Schottenheimer told ESPN Cleveland. “He functions extremely well, plays golf several times a week. He’s got that memory lag where he’ll ask you the same question three or four times.
“He remembers people and faces, and he pulls out strange things that I’ve never heard, but he’s doing well. It’s going be a long road. We both know that.”
Schottenheimer, 73, ranks seventh in all-time victories with 200. He coached three franchises to the playoffs during 21 NFL seasons but never made it past the conference championship game, coming up one game short of the Super Bowl in 1986 and ’87 with the Browns and again in 1993 with the Chiefs. Bennett may need surgery: The Seahawks will be without defensive end Michael Bennett for Sunday’s game against the Saints and possibly longer.
Coach Pete Carroll said Bennett has a cartilage problem in his right knee and might need surgery. Carroll said a decision on Bennett’s treatment likely will come early next week.
Safety Kam Chancellor (groin) also has been ruled out for Sunday. Extra points: Packers CB Quinten Rollins (groin) was ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Falcons. ... Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (knee) is listed as questionable against the Eagles. ... Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles ( knee) was ruled out against the Colts.
