Terps ranked No. 25 in AP preseason poll
A week after being voted No. 21 in the USA Today coaches’ Top 25 poll, the Maryland men’s basketball team was selected No. 25 in the Associated Press preseason media poll. Duke is the No. 1 team in the AP poll for the eighth time. The Blue Devils, who return three starters and have one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, received 58 of the 65 first-place votes. Kentucky, which had two No. 1votes, is second, while Kansas is third. Defending national champion Villanova had four first-place votes and was fourth, while Oregon, which had the other No. 1 vote, is fifth. North Carolina, Xavier, Virginia, Wisconsin and Arizona round out the top10. The Terps, who have one of the nation’s top point guards returning in Melo Trimble, are one of five Big Ten teams picked in the preseason poll. In addition to Wisconsin, Indiana is No. 11, Michigan State is No. 12 and Purdue is No. 15. Michigan is the only other Big Ten team to receive votes. Maryland plays its lone preseason game Saturday against Catawba at Xfinity Center before opening the season Nov. 11 at home against American.
