Terps ranked No. 25 in AP pre­sea­son poll

A week af­ter be­ing voted No. 21 in the USA To­day coaches’ Top 25 poll, the Mary­land men’s bas­ket­ball team was se­lected No. 25 in the As­so­ci­ated Press pre­sea­son me­dia poll. Duke is the No. 1 team in the AP poll for the eighth time. The Blue Dev­ils, who re­turn three starters and have one of the top re­cruit­ing classes in the na­tion, re­ceived 58 of the 65 first-place votes. Ken­tucky, which had two No. 1votes, is sec­ond, while Kansas is third. De­fend­ing na­tional cham­pion Vil­lanova had four first-place votes and was fourth, while Ore­gon, which had the other No. 1 vote, is fifth. North Carolina, Xavier, Vir­ginia, Wis­con­sin and Ari­zona round out the top10. The Terps, who have one of the na­tion’s top point guards re­turn­ing in Melo Trim­ble, are one of five Big Ten teams picked in the pre­sea­son poll. In ad­di­tion to Wis­con­sin, In­di­ana is No. 11, Michi­gan State is No. 12 and Pur­due is No. 15. Michi­gan is the only other Big Ten team to re­ceive votes. Mary­land plays its lone pre­sea­son game Satur­day against Catawba at Xfin­ity Cen­ter be­fore open­ing the sea­son Nov. 11 at home against Amer­i­can.
