No. 3 S. River tops No. 13 Broad­neck, 4-2

Maia Cheeks and Sarah King have scored some big goals for the South River field hockey team this year.

None were big­ger than the two the pair scored in a two-minute span on Mon­day night.

Cheeks scored the ty­ing goal with 9:48 left in the game, and King scored on a penalty stroke two min­utes later to help the No. 3 Sea­hawks earn a 4-2 win over No. 13 Broad­neck (10-6) in the Class 4A East Re­gion Sec­tion II fi­nal.

South River (15-1-1) ad­vances to the re­gion fi­nal, where it will host No. 8 Sev­erna Park, the three-time de­fend­ing state cham­pion, on Wed­nes­day. The Sea­hawks are go­ing for their sev­enth re­gion ti­tle and first since 2012, when they won their fourth state ti­tle.

NO. 8 SEV­ERNA PARK 1, ARUN­DEL 0: Alex Miller scored with11:30 left in the first half to lead the Fal­cons (10-4-2) over the Wild­cats (9-7) in the Class 4A East Re­gion Sec­tion I fi­nal at Kin­der Park.

NO. 15 LIB­ERTY 1, SOUTH CAR­ROLL 0, OT: Ab­bie Busch scored on a penalty stroke with 7:41left in over­time to lift the host Lions (13-2) over the Cava­liers (9-7) in a Class 1A West semi­fi­nal.

Lib­erty will face Fran­cis Scott Key in the fi­nal Wed­nes­day.

MANCH­ESTER VAL­LEY 1, MIDDLETOWN 0, 2OT: Macken­zie Poist scored in the sec­ond over­time pe­riod to lead the Mav­er­icks over the vis­it­ing Knights in the Class 2A West Sec­tion 1 fi­nal.

Man Val­ley faces Poolesville in the Class 2A West re­gion fi­nal Wed­nes­day.

OLD MILL 3, NORTH COUNTY 0: Rachel Fontz scored twice to lead the vis­it­ing Pa­tri­ots (8-6) to vic­tory over the top-seeded Knights (7-6) in the Class 4A North Re­gion Sec­tion II fi­nal.

Old Mill will face No. 12 Du­laney in the 4A North Re­gion fi­nal Wed­nes­day.

NO. 5 MCDONOGH 3, ST. MARY’S 0: Blake Cun­neen, Andie Al­dave and Al­lie Weiner scored to lead the host Ea­gles (13-4) to a win over the Saints (4-9-1) in an In­ter­scholas­tic Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion of Mary­land ACon­fer­ence quar­ter­fi­nal.

McDonogh­will face No. 2Arch­bishop Spald­ing in a semi­fi­nal Wed­nes­day.

MOUNT DE SALES 2, GLENELG COUN­TRY 0: Sam Dinoto and Libby Rehkem­per scored to lift the host Sailors (14-5) over the Drag­ons (6-6) in an IAAM B Con­fer­ence quar­ter­fi­nal.

Mount de Sales will face John Car­roll in a semi­fi­nal Wed­nes­day.

AN­NAPO­LIS AREA CHRIS­TIAN 1, SEVERN0: Maggie Stallings scored with 10 min­utes left in reg­u­la­tion and Kaleigh Ko­tula made seven saves, in­clud­ing fend­ing off a pair of penalty cor­ners, as the host Ea­gles (11-4) beat the Ad­mi­rals (9-6-1) in an IAAM B Con­fer­ence quar­ter­fi­nal. AACS will travel to No. 14 Mary­vale for a semi­fi­nal Wed­nes­day.
