Ryan leads Falcons past Bucs, 43-28
Matt Ryan threw for 344 yards and four touchdowns, helping the visiting Falcons tighten their grip on first place in the NFC South with a 43-28 victory over the Buccaneers on Thursday night.
Julio Jones had eight receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown as Atlanta (6-3) avenged a season-opening loss to Tampa Bay (3-5). The Buccaneers have dropped two straight after a threegame winning streak that got them back to .500. Jones caught a 3-yard scoring pass in the third quarter, when Ryan led touchdown drives of 86 and 82 yards to break the game open.
Jameis Winston threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns for Tampa Bay, including scoring passes of 3 and 24 yards to Mike Evans, who had11 receptions.
Both of the Buccaneers’ young stars finished the game on the sideline, with Evans being evaluated for a possible concussion and Winston limping off after being shaken up when he was tackled trying to score on a 2-point conversion play with just under seven minutes remaining. Eagles release Huff: The Eagles released wide receiver Josh Huff, two days after he was arrested on gun and drug charges.
Huff was charged Tuesday with possession of a 9mm handgun without a permit and having a small amount of marijuana after he was pulled over for speeding. Huff was also cited by the officer for driving while intoxicated. NFL adds VR series: NFL Films is producing a virtual reality series showing life in and around the league.
The nine-part series will debut Thanksgiving Day on the league’s YouTube channel. Later episodes will be available on a virtual reality app designed for Google’s Daydream. Turner had CTE: Researchers found a traumatic brain disease in former Eagles and Patriots fullback Kevin Turner, who was the lead plaintiff in a concussion lawsuit against the NFL.
Turner died in March at 46 of complications from Lou Gehrig’s disease, which has been linked to chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
Announcing the results of their study at a conference at Boston University, the doctors said Turner developed CTE over 25 years from playing football. Researchers at BU and the Veterans Administration studied his brain and found the most advanced stage of CTE with motor neuron disease. Bills RB LeSean McCoy expects to play at Seattle on Monday night after testing his injured left hamstring in practice. It was his first time back onthe field since aggravating the injury Oct. 23 in a 28-25 loss at Miami. ... 49ers RB Carlos Hyde said he suffered an AC joint injury in his shoulder that may prevent him from playing against the Saints. Hyde returned to practice this week after sustaining the injury Oct. 16 against the Bills.
