Ryan leads Fal­cons past Bucs, 43-28

Matt Ryan threw for 344 yards and four touch­downs, help­ing the vis­it­ing Fal­cons tighten their grip on first place in the NFC South with a 43-28 vic­tory over the Buc­ca­neers on Thurs­day night.

Julio Jones had eight re­cep­tions for 111 yards and a touch­down as At­lanta (6-3) avenged a sea­son-open­ing loss to Tampa Bay (3-5). The Buc­ca­neers have dropped two straight after a three­game win­ning streak that got them back to .500. Jones caught a 3-yard scor­ing pass in the third quar­ter, when Ryan led touch­down drives of 86 and 82 yards to break the game open.

Jameis Win­ston threw for 261 yards and three touch­downs for Tampa Bay, in­clud­ing scor­ing passes of 3 and 24 yards to Mike Evans, who had11 re­cep­tions.

Both of the Buc­ca­neers’ young stars fin­ished the game on the side­line, with Evans be­ing eval­u­ated for a pos­si­ble con­cus­sion and Win­ston limp­ing off after be­ing shaken up when he was tack­led try­ing to score on a 2-point con­ver­sion play with just un­der seven min­utes re­main­ing. Ea­gles re­lease Huff: The Ea­gles re­leased wide re­ceiver Josh Huff, two days after he was ar­rested on gun and drug charges.

Huff was charged Tues­day with pos­ses­sion of a 9mm hand­gun with­out a per­mit and hav­ing a small amount of mar­i­juana after he was pulled over for speed­ing. Huff was also cited by the of­fi­cer for driv­ing while in­tox­i­cated. NFL adds VR series: NFL Films is pro­duc­ing a vir­tual re­al­ity series show­ing life in and around the league.

The nine-part series will de­but Thanksgiving Day on the league’s YouTube chan­nel. Later episodes will be avail­able on a vir­tual re­al­ity app de­signed for Google’s Day­dream. Turner had CTE: Re­searchers found a trau­matic brain dis­ease in for­mer Ea­gles and Pa­tri­ots full­back Kevin Turner, who was the lead plain­tiff in a con­cus­sion law­suit against the NFL.

Turner died in March at 46 of com­pli­ca­tions from Lou Gehrig’s dis­ease, which has been linked to chronic trau­matic en­cephalopa­thy.

An­nounc­ing the re­sults of their study at a con­fer­ence at Bos­ton Univer­sity, the doc­tors said Turner de­vel­oped CTE over 25 years from play­ing foot­ball. Re­searchers at BU and the Vet­er­ans Ad­min­is­tra­tion stud­ied his brain and found the most ad­vanced stage of CTE with mo­tor neu­ron dis­ease. It was his first time back on­the field since ag­gra­vat­ing the in­jury Oct. 23 in a 28-25 loss at Miami. ... 49ers RB Car­los Hyde said he suf­fered an AC joint in­jury in his shoul­der that may pre­vent him from play­ing against the Saints. Hyde re­turned to prac­tice this week after sus­tain­ing the in­jury Oct. 16 against the Bills.
