Mavs win 1st, hold Bucks to 1 in OT
Harrison Barnes scored a career-high 34 points and the Mavericks limited the Bucks to one point in overtime, winning their first game of the season 86-75 on Sunday in Dallas.
J.J. Barea added 21 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Andrew Bogut hauled in 16 rebounds.
Barnes’ driving layup with 13 seconds left in regulation forced overtime.
The Bucks had 27 turnovers. Their only point of OT came on a free throw by Giannis Antetokounmpo, who totaled 11 points. Jabari Parker’s 16 points led the Bucks.
CJ McCollum matched his career high with 37 points to lead the Trail Blazers past the Grizzlies 100-94. McCollum also matched his career best with six 3-pointers. ... Gordon Hayward, who broke his right ring finger in training camp, scored 28 points in his season debut as the Jazz beat the Knicks 114-109. ... LeBron James moved into 10th place on the NBA’s career scoring list with 25 points in the unbeaten Cavaliers’ 102-101 victory over the 76ers on Saturday night. Olajuwon had 26,946 points. James now has 26,970. ... Pelicans G Lance Stephenson will need surgery to repair a groin injury.
