The All-Metro se­nior hit­ter closed out her four-year ca­reer on the high­est of notes, lead­ing the Blaz­ers (11-8) to the In­ter­scholas­tic Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion of Mary­land A Con­fer­ence cham­pi­onship Satur­day. In a four-game up­set win over top seed St. Paul’s, Newell had18 kills, 22 digs, four aces and three blocks. With the 20-25, 25-11, 25-23, 25-13 vic­tory, Notre Dame Prep, seeded third, handed the Cru­saders their first league loss of the sea­son. In reach­ing the cham­pi­onship match, the Blaz­ers swept John Car­roll on Nov. 1 and sec­ond-seeded Arch­bishop Spald­ing on Thurs­day. Newell had 10 kills, five digs and eight aces against the Pa­tri­ots and 14 kills, 10 digs, two aces and a block against the Cava­liers. De­spite miss­ing four games with an in­jury this sea­son, Newell fin­ished with a team-high 163 kills, 153 digs and 50 aces. She has com­mit­ted to play at Get­tys­burg.
