Mis­trial for man charged with run­ning over woman in Fells Point

A mis­trial was de­clared Wed­nes­day in the trial of a man charged with as­sault for run­ning over a woman with his ve­hi­cle in Fells Point, af­ter ju­rors re­ported they were dead­locked af­ter about a day of de­lib­er­a­tions.

Video from the scene showed Or­lando Redd, 39, re­vers­ing his ve­hi­cle onto a side­walk as bars let out in Fe­bru­ary and run­ning over a woman, who suf­fered se­ri­ous in­juries.

Prose­cu­tors told ju­rors that Redd con­sciously ini­ti­ated a se­ries of con­fronta­tions and was in con­trol of his ac­tions, while Redd’s de­fense at­tor­ney said he was fran­ti­cally try­ing to flee a fight and in­tended no harm.

Redd re­mains held with­out bail on charges of first-de­gree as­sault, two counts of se­cond-de­gree as­sault, ma­li­cious de- struc­tion of prop­erty and sev­eral traf­fic vi­o­la­tions.

Judge Brooke M. Mur­dock dis­missed one count of first-de­gree as­sault re­lated to Jil­lian Vac­caro, the woman who was run over. The other as­sault charges re­late to a man Redd punched.

A new trial has been sched­uled for March, said Bran­don Mead, Redd’s de­fense at­tor­ney.
