Mistrial for man charged with running over woman in Fells Point
A mistrial was declared Wednesday in the trial of a man charged with assault for running over a woman with his vehicle in Fells Point, after jurors reported they were deadlocked after about a day of deliberations.
Video from the scene showed Orlando Redd, 39, reversing his vehicle onto a sidewalk as bars let out in February and running over a woman, who suffered serious injuries.
Prosecutors told jurors that Redd consciously initiated a series of confrontations and was in control of his actions, while Redd’s defense attorney said he was frantically trying to flee a fight and intended no harm.
Redd remains held without bail on charges of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, malicious de- struction of property and several traffic violations.
Judge Brooke M. Murdock dismissed one count of first-degree assault related to Jillian Vaccaro, the woman who was run over. The other assault charges relate to a man Redd punched.
A new trial has been scheduled for March, said Brandon Mead, Redd’s defense attorney.
