Spirit trade Spald­ing alum Chris­tine Nairn to Seat­tle

The Wash­ing­ton Spirit traded An­napo­lis-born mid­fielder Chris­tine Nairn (Arch­bishop Spald­ing) and goal­keeper Mada­lyn Schif­fel to the Seat­tle Reign FC for the rights to mid­fielder Ha­vana So­laun, the third and 36th over­all picks in the 2017 Na­tional Women’s Soc­cer League col­lege draft and the Reign’s 2018 sec­ond-round pick. So­laun, who at­tended Florida, missed her rookie sea­son, 2015, with a bro­ken an­kle, then started three games in 2016. Nairn had 67 ap­pear­ances, 62 starts, 14 goals and 10 as­sists in three sea­sons with the Spirit, who ac­quired her af­ter her rookie sea­son with the Reign. Schif­fel, the 34th over­all pick in the 2016 col­lege draft from San Fran­cisco, played this sea­son in Nor­way. In an­other move, the Spirit re-signed mid­fielder Tori Huster, who led the team in min­utes. COL­LEGE FIELD HOCKEY: Sec­ond- ranked Mary­land (17-4) earned the No. 2 over­all seed in the NCAA tour­na­ment and will host the NCAA first and sec­ond rounds. The Terps will play Mas­sachusetts (14-7) on Satur­day at 11:30 a.m. No. 4 North Carolina (17-5) will play No. 12 Stan­ford (13-6) at 2 p.m. The win­ners of those games will play at 2 p.m. Sun­day.
