Ash­ley Cald­well, Lib­erty, field hockey

The se­nior cap­tain, a four-year starter at for­ward, was in­stru­men­tal in Lib­erty’s first state cham­pi­onship since 1982, pro­vid­ing one goal and two as­sists in the team’s two state tour­na­ment wins last week. In the Lions’ 5-1win over pre­vi­ously un­de­feated Patux­ent in the semi­fi­nals on Nov. 7, Cald­well fin­ished with one goal and one as­sist. In Satur­day’s 2-0 win over Queen Anne’s for the crown, she jump-started the Lions with an as­sist on what turned out to be the game-win­ning goal from Brooke Hef­fler. Named to the Car­roll County Times’ all-county first team last sea­son as a ju­nior, Cald­well fin­ished this sea­son with five goals and 20 as­sists. She will be play­ing field hockey at Queens Col­lege in North Carolina.
