A crime scene technician for the Baltimore Police Department has been arrested on felony drug and gun charges after police raided her home and found drugs, guns and more than $100,000 in cash, police said Thursday.

Timika Jones, 37, who was hired by the department in the summer of 2015, was arrested Wednesday along with her boyfriend, Clarence Jones Jr., 39, with whom she lived in the 1600 block of Ashburton St., said T.J. Smith, a police spokesman.

The arrest occurred after officers raided the home based on a tip several weeks ago that there was drug activity at the home, Smith said.

“It was proactive, as the result of information that was received,” Smith said. Police entered the home on a search-andseizure warrant.

Inside, they found two handguns, a “capsule machine” for packaging drugs, and $100,000 in cash, police said. In a vehicle outside the home, which was rented by Timika Jones, police found 125 gel capsules containing “suspected heroin” and an additional $5,000 in cash, police said.

As a crime scene technician, Jones’ duties involved processing crime scenes, including dusting for fingerprints and taking pictures, Smith said. She did not have access to the department’s drug laboratory or storage, Smith said.

Smith said the department was in the process of reviewing all of the criminal cases in which Jones served as the technician “out of an abundance of caution.”

Jones has been suspended without pay in accordance with department policy for officers charged with but not yet convicted of a felony, Smith said.

Both Jones and her boyfriend have been charged with felony drug possession, intent to distribute drugs, and handgun violations, and were being held at Central Booking on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Online court records show Jones was held in the facility on $250,000 bail and her boyfriend on $300,000 bail.

Neither had an attorney listed in court records.

Both are due in court for a preliminary hearing in the case on Dec. 14.
