Bear victim will need extensive rehabilitation

Baltimore Sun - - MARYLAND -

A Western Maryland woman who was recently attacked by a black bear has more serious injuries than initially thought. Sixty-three-yearold Karen Osborne was mauled Wednesday night in the driveway of her daughter’s home near Frederick. WTOP-FM reported that Osborn has a fractured pelvic bone, along with sev- eral other injuries, according to her husband. She might have to remain hospitalized for several more weeks and will need extensive rehabilitation. Osborn survived the attack by punching the bear, and when that didn’t work, she played dead. The bear was later euthanized. It was the first recorded bear attack in Maryland in 81 years.
