Police: 2 dead, 4 hospitalized in shootings at Louisville park
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two people were killed and four were hospitalized in shootings at a riverfront park in Louisville, police said Thursday.
Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman Dwight Mitchell said officers responded to a call of multiple shootings about 1:30 p.m. at Shawnee Park. The injuries among those taken to University Hospital were not considered life-threatening, he said.
The shootings occurred near the site of the annual Juice Bowl series of football games, which was attended by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.
Charlotte Waddell, a cousin of the late Muhammad Ali who has attended the football event for decades, said she had just finished talking to the mayor when she heard gunshots.
“This is the worst Thanksgiving ever; I’ll never be back,” she said. “I’m pretty shaken up.”
