Brady practicing again for Patriots
Tom Brady is taking a wait-and-see approach to his availability for the Patriots’ game against the Jets on Sunday.
The New England quarterback returned to practice Friday after missing two days with a knee injury, but he would not commit to playing this weekend.
ESPN reported that there has been minimal to no concern about Brady’s availability Sunday.
It’s unclear when or how Brady injured his knee. He completed 24 of 40 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday’s 30-17 win over the 49ers in Santa Clara, Calif.
“I don’t want to get into it much,” Brady said after practice. “It’s just bumps and bruises like everybody else.”
A win against the Jets would give Brady his 200th regular-season victory, tying him with Peyton Manning for the most in NFL history. Streak will end: Safety Earl Thomas will not play in the Seahawks’ game against the Buccaneers on Sunday, ending his streak of 106 straight starts to begin his career.
The seventh-year player, who has been to five Pro Bowls, suffered a hamstring strain in last weekend’s win over the Eagles.
Cornerback DeShawn Shead suffered the same injury in the game, and will be a game-time decision. Panthers in pain: The Panthers have given up on hopes that left tackle Michael Oher will play again this season, placing the former Raven on injured reserve.
Oher has missed the past seven games with a concussion, and coach Ron Rivera said: “It’s tough. It’s just one of those things.”
All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly will miss Sunday’s game against the Raiders, but he did make the trip with the team to Oakland, Calif. Kuechly was carted off the field Nov. 17 with a concussion.
The Panthers also will be without center Ryan Kalil (shoulder) and defensive end Mario Addison (foot). They signed defensive end Ryan Delaire (Towson) from the injured reservereturn list. Watkins returns: Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins will make his long-awaited return Sunday against the Jaguars.
The Bills’ top wideout has missed the last two months after aggravating a left foot injury, and was placed on injured reserve in Week 3.
He returned to practice Wednesday and made it through the week without any setbacks.
Watkins is expected to be eased back into the lineup because of a lack of conditioning. Extra points: Redskins TE Jordan Reed suffered a Grade 3 separation of his left shoulder during the Redskins’ loss to the Cowboys on Thursday, but there’s still uncertainty over whether he’ll have to miss any time. ... Saints S Vonn Bell and S Kenny Vaccaro were fined $9,115 for their penalized hits against the Panthers. ... Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict and Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin were fined $12,154 for unsportsmanlike conduct after the players raised middle fingers in separate games, ESPN reported.
