23-2 first-half spurt car­ries Tow­son men

Navy women de­feat Ne­vada, 79-62


Mike Morsell scored 21points and host Tow­son used a 23-2 first-half run to pull away from Stony Brook, 88-63, in men’s basketball Fri­day in the Bar­clays Cen­ter Clas­sic.

Brian Starr’s jumper gave Tow­son a 27-26 lead and sparked the big run, and the Tigers led 50-28 at halftime af­ter hold­ing the Sea­wolves score­less for nearly 10 min­utes. Morsell scored 17 points in the half, De­shaun Mor­man had 11 points and the Tigers shot 66.7 per­cent from the field (18-for-27) to the Sea­wolves’ 28.6 per­cent (8-for-28).

Stony Brook fin­ished shoot­ing 30.5 per­cent from the field.

Mor­man fin­ished with 18 points for Tow­son (3-2). John Davis scored 13 and had 10 re­bounds, Alex Thomas scored 12 points, and Ar­naud Wil­liam Adala Moto had 10.

Tyrell Stur­di­vant and Ak­wasi Ye­boah scored 10 apiece for the Sea­wolves (0-4).

GRAND CANYON 70, COP­PIN STATE 37: DeWayne Rus­sell had 18 points on 8-for-13 shoot­ing and the host An­telopes (2-2) held the Ea­gles (0-7) to 14 first-half points.

Grand Canyon opened the game on a 15-2 run and led by dou­ble dig­its the rest of the way. Cop­pin State shot 4-for-26 from the field in the first half, in­clud­ing 2-for-11 from 3-point range.


NAVY 79, NE­VADA 62: Sarita Condie scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Mids (3-2) past the host Wolf Pack (3-2) at the Nugget Clas­sic.

Navy used a 12-5 run and seven turnovers to es­tab­lish an early lead. The Mids led by as many as 17 points on layups three times. Kaila Clark (Arch­bishop Spald­ing) made a layup for a 33-16 lead with 5:54 left in the first half. Jus­tice Swett made a layup for a 73-56 lead with 2:56 left in the game. And Ashanti Kennedy made a layup with 24 sec­onds left in the game for the fi­nal score. Navy faces Arkansas, a 91-61 win­ner over Mem­phis, in tonight’s cham­pi­onship at 7:30.

EASTERN KEN­TUCKY 66, MORGAN STATE 58: The Colonels (2-2) led the en­tire game and held off a sec­ond-half rally by the Bears (1-3) at the Mis­souriKansas City tour­na­ment.

Braen­nan Far­rar fin­ished with 15 points for Morgan State, which faces the host Kan­ga­roos (1-3) to­day at 4:30 p.m.

STEPHENF. AUSTIN72, COPPINSTATE57: Ge­n­e­sis Lu­cas scored a sea­son-high 14 points, but the host Ea­gles (0-5) fell to the Lady­jacks (3-2).
