Wall, Wiz­ards hold on to beat Magic


OR­LANDO, Fla. — John Wall had 26 points and 10 as­sists to help the Wiz­ards hold on for a 94-91 vic­tory over the Magic on Fri­day night.

Wall scored Wash­ing­ton’s last eight points as the Wiz­ards sur­vived af­ter sur­ren­der­ing a 19-point firstquar­ter lead. Otto Porter Jr. scored 19 for Wash­ing­ton and all five starters fin­ished in dou­ble fig­ures.

Serge Ibaka led the Magic with 19 points, while Nikola Vuce­vic contributed 17 points and 17 re­bounds. El­frid Pay­ton scored 15 points, all in the sec­ond half, as Or­lando lost its third straight game.

The Wiz­ards trailed 80-76 af­ter Magic guard D.J. Au­gustin’s three-point play with 6:22 left in the game. Wash­ing­ton went on a 7-0 run be­hind a 3-pointer from Porter and back-to-back layups from Marcin Gor­tat, who had 12 points and nine re­bounds.

Though Or­lando cut the deficit to one on two oc­ca­sions, the Wiz­ards made the lead stand up the rest of the game.

The Magic trailed 26-7 at one point in the first quar­ter, but pa­tiently worked them­selves back into the game by tak­ing care of the ball and turn­ing Wash­ing­ton into jump shoot­ers the fi­nal three pe­ri­ods.
