Wall, Wizards hold on to beat Magic
ORLANDO, Fla. — John Wall had 26 points and 10 assists to help the Wizards hold on for a 94-91 victory over the Magic on Friday night.
Wall scored Washington’s last eight points as the Wizards survived after surrendering a 19-point firstquarter lead. Otto Porter Jr. scored 19 for Washington and all five starters finished in double figures.
Serge Ibaka led the Magic with 19 points, while Nikola Vucevic contributed 17 points and 17 rebounds. Elfrid Payton scored 15 points, all in the second half, as Orlando lost its third straight game.
The Wizards trailed 80-76 after Magic guard D.J. Augustin’s three-point play with 6:22 left in the game. Washington went on a 7-0 run behind a 3-pointer from Porter and back-to-back layups from Marcin Gortat, who had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Though Orlando cut the deficit to one on two occasions, the Wizards made the lead stand up the rest of the game.
The Magic trailed 26-7 at one point in the first quarter, but patiently worked themselves back into the game by taking care of the ball and turning Washington into jump shooters the final three periods.
