Julie Lynch, Sparrows Point, soccer
The sophomore midfielder saved her best for last in leading the No. 2 Pointers (17-1) to their fourth straight Class 1A state championship Nov. 19 — a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against No. 7 Patterson Mill. After scoring the tying goal midway through the second half, Lynch converted a penalty kick with 8:11 left to lift Sparrows Point to victory. It’s the second straight year the standout has scored the winning goal in the state championship. Last year, she scored in the game’s first minute as the Pointers claimed a 2-0 win over the Huskies. This year, Lynch finished with 18 goals and 12 assists, giving her 34 goals and 24 assists in her first two seasons. Lynch showed skill and poise in scoring the two goals against Patterson Mill in this year’s title game. Just before the midway point of the second half, she scored from 30 yards out to get the game tied and then later found the lower-right corner on the penalty kick to put Sparrows Point ahead for the first time at 2-1.
