SI award goes to James for 2nd time
LeBron James has been chosen Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year for the second time in his career after leading the Cavaliers to an NBA title and ending Cleveland’s 52-year championship drought.
James, who on Thursday was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for November, rallied the Cavs from a 3-1 deficit against the 73-win Warriors in the NBA Finals. He earned the finals MVP for a third time.
The Thunder’s Russell Westbrook, who is averaging a triple-double this season, was named the Western Conference Player of the Month for November. Rookies of the Month were the Nuggets’ Jamal Murray and 76ers’ Joel Embiid. ... Clippers coach Doc Rivers was fined $15,000 by the NBA for verbally abusing a game official and failing to leave the court in a timely manner after his ejection Tuesday night at Brooklyn. ... Pistons center Andre Drummond was fined $15,000 for striking Hornets center Roy Hibbert in the back of the head with an elbow, a Flagrant 2 foul, Tuesday night. ... ESPN reported the Nets will likely sign restricted free-agent forward Donatas Motiejunas to an offer sheet.
