SI award goes to James for 2nd time

LeBron James has been cho­sen Sports Il­lus­trated’s Sportsper­son of the Year for the sec­ond time in his ca­reer af­ter lead­ing the Cava­liers to an NBA ti­tle and end­ing Cleve­land’s 52-year cham­pi­onship drought.

James, who on Thurs­day was named the Eastern Con­fer­ence Player of the Month for Novem­ber, ral­lied the Cavs from a 3-1 deficit against the 73-win War­riors in the NBA Fi­nals. He earned the fi­nals MVP for a third time.

The Thun­der’s Rus­sell West­brook, who is av­er­ag­ing a triple-dou­ble this sea­son, was named the Western Con­fer­ence Player of the Month for Novem­ber. Rook­ies of the Month were the Nuggets’ Ja­mal Mur­ray and 76ers’ Joel Em­biid. ... Clip­pers coach Doc Rivers was fined $15,000 by the NBA for ver­bally abus­ing a game of­fi­cial and fail­ing to leave the court in a timely man­ner af­ter his ejec­tion Tues­day night at Brook­lyn. ... Pis­tons cen­ter An­dre Drum­mond was fined $15,000 for strik­ing Hor­nets cen­ter Roy Hib­bert in the back of the head with an el­bow, a Fla­grant 2 foul, Tues­day night. ...
