Wizards to open summer league play against Cavs

The Washington Wizards will play in three preliminar­y round games in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas on July 6-9 before being seeded in a tournament running through the championsh­ip game on July 17. Washington will play its first game July 6 at 9 p.m. vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Wizards’ next two games are scheduled for July 8 at 3:30 p.m. vs. the San Antonio Spurs and July 9 at 5:30 p.m. vs. the Philadelph­ia 76ers. Washington’s first game will take place at Cox Pavilion while their next two matchups will take place at Thomas and Mack Center. The NBA Summer League will run12 days and consist of 82 games as part of the usual tournament-style schedule. Each team will play at least five games and as many as eight. Senators assistant GMRandy Lee will appear in court next week on charges of second-degree harassment of a hotel shuttle driver in Buffalo on May 30. Lee has pleaded not guilty.

Manchester United has been rated by Forbes as the world’s most valuable soccer team for the second year in a row. The team’s worth increased to $4.12 billion from $3.69 billion a year ago and it is ranked just ahead of Real Madrid ($4.09 billion) and Barcelona ($4.06 billion).

Denis Istomin upset two-time finalist Philipp Kohlschrei­ber 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) in the first round of the Stuttgart Open. In other matches, Marton Fucsovics defeated American Denis Kudla 6-3, 6-4 and Gilles Simon beat Matteo Viola 6-0, 6-3.
