CHOOSING A LIVE-EDGE COUNTER
WHERE DO I GET IT?
A recommended carpenter can help you source kiln-dried wood that won’t split.
Regularly oiling it will develop a patina. If that’s not your style, seal it with a water-base finish, which preserves the wood’s natural color and adds a durable film to the surface. Bark adds rusticity, but note that it may fall off as wood ages. It’s best for areas that aren’t frequently used. “I would not leave it on an island where you’re bellying up to it,” Paprocki says.
