peck at tree trunks and suet feed­ers in my back­yard. When I was vis­it­ing a botan­i­cal gar­den and heard the fa­mil­iar tap­ping, I ap­proached a tree to find a downy wood­pecker. It flew by me and straight into a trum­pet vine. I love how the red blos­soms and green leaves cre­ate such a col­or­ful back­drop.
